Certified Cage Free
There are currently no federal standards for cage free egg production in the United States, leaving consumers without any guarantee as to whether their eggs were actually produced in a cage free facility. To ensure that every egg that goes into our 100% cage free cartons comes from hens that were able to move around freely in a large barn, all of our family farms voluntarily submit to audits by third party certifiers.
The Certified Cage Free logo on NestFresh cartons is your assurance that our eggs really are 100% cage free because they have come from family farms that truly care for their hens and have been audited by an independent third party certifier that is committed to the humane treatment of farm animals. These farm audits ensure that we are fulfilling the promise to both our hens and our customers to treat our hens as humanely as possible.
American Humane is one organization that provides audits of our facilities and independent third party verification that the eggs produced on these farms are always cage free.

American Humane Certified
Founded in 1877, American Humane is the oldest national organization dedicated to protecting both children and animals. Animal science experts familiar with all farm animal species created unique animal welfare standards for each species. With up to 200 benchmarks for a specific species, the most basic criteria require that animals:
• Have clean and sufficient food and water
• Live in a humane environment under conditions and care that limit stress
• Are able to express normal behaviors
• Live in an appropriate and comfortable environment that includes sufficient space, proper facilities,
shelter, a resting area, and company of their own kind.
• Have a healthy life, benefiting from disease and injury prevention and rapid diagnoses and treatment
We respect American Humane’s long held commitment to protect and care for animals. Please visit their website at
